General Information

Can I drive around the Mount?

Yes, you absolutely can drive around Mount Panorama. Outside of major events, Mount Panorama is a public road with a speed limit of 60km/h and NSW road rules apply. You are free to drive the full circuit, in either direction at no cost, however most people opt to drive it in race direction.

To ensure you don't visit when the track is closed, make sure to check out the track closures prior to visiting.

What to expect if you drive it yourself?

  1. Even in regular traffic conditions, Mount Panorama offers a spectacular 6.2 km loop with 23 dramatic turns, steep elevation changes, and scenic viewpoints, an exhilarating experience even at everyday speeds.
  2. Many people drive slowly to enjoy the views or stop for photos, so please drive carefully, especially around blind corners and over crests.
  3. Be mindful of walkers and cyclists, most sections don’t have footpaths, so extra caution is essential.
  4. In the lead up to major race events, parts of the circuit may have traffic control in place to allow for signwriting, maintenance or construction.

Can I walk or ride around the Mount?

Yes, Mount Panorama is a public road and can be used like any other road in NSW. The public is more than welcome to walk or ride around the circuit, but please exercise caution as there are no footpaths along most of the track and wear high visibility clothing.

There is a 1.7km boardwalk running from Griffins Bend to the Bathurst Light Car Club near the exit of Forrest's Elbow which winds through a combination of ground level and elevated sections.

Can I race on the track?

Mount Panorama is a public road and is subject to NSW road rules and speed limits. The speed limit of the circuit is 60km/h. While it might be tempting to pretend you’re a race car driver for the day, speeding on the circuit is illegal and dangerous. Many drivers have been fined for exceeding the limit or veering onto the wrong side of the road, and the circuit is popular with walkers, joggers and cyclists, so please stick to the road rules.

If you’d like to experience racing at Mount Panorama, you can only do so as part of an official, sanctioned event, such as the below:

  • Challenge Bathurst – held annually in November, the event is designed specifically to allow experienced motorsport competitors and owners of performance road registered cars the opportunity to race on the circuit.
  • Bathurst Light Car Club - run regular events such as Hillclimbs. Check out their calendar of events, there may be an opportunity to get involved.
  • V8 Drive and Hot Laps – Once a year, there is the exclusive opportunity to experience a V8 drive or hot laps at Mount Panorama. Booking essential. Visit Fasttrack Experiences.

When can I visit Mount Panorama?

Mount Panorama is open to the public all year round, except when it’s closed for events.

The circuit is fully closed during major race events, such as the Bathurst 1000, and partial closures can be in place for other activities such as Hillclimbs and Supersprints.

How do I get to Mount Panorama?

Mount Panorama is located in South Bathurst. The easiest way to get there is to follow the main street of Bathurst, William Street, all the way south.

If you’re coming from Sydney (east), the Great Western Highway will bring you into Bathurst, where it intersects with William Street, just turn left onto William Street and continue for about 1.5km. The road then becomes Panorama Avenue. Keep going for another 1.5km from there and you’ll arrive at Mount Panorama and enter the circuit at Murray's Corner.

What is the address of the Mount Panorama Pit Complex?

Pit Complex, Pit Straight, Mount Panorama, Bathurst NSW 2795.

Access for cars is either via Mountain Straight (when there are no track closures) or via the Tunnel off Ray Bant Drive at the entrance to the track. Access is also available to pedestrians (during race periods) via the Pedestrian Bridge over Pit Straight accessed via Harris Park.

Can I bring my dog to the Mount?

Outside of race events, you’re welcome to bring your dog to Mount Panorama, including on the board walk loop and at McPhillamy Park however they must be kept on a leash at all times. Please remember to always pick up after your pet to help keep the Mount clean for everyone.

Please note that the Mount is also home to an array of native wildlife including kangaroos, snakes, echidnas. Please be mindful of this when bringing your dog and keep them under control at all times.

During major race events, dogs are not permitted into the circuit, unless they are certified guide dogs or assistance animals. This restriction also applies to campers staying at the Mount during events.

What else is on at Mount Panorama, other than the Bathurst 1000?

Mount Panorama is best known for the iconic Bathurst 1000, but the circuit and surrounding precinct host a wide range of other events throughout the year.

Under the Mount Panorama Act (1993), the track is limited to five full-circuit events each year, but plenty of other activities happen on and around the Mount. As well as attracting drivers from all over Australia for major race meetings, Mount Panorama regularly hosts smaller motorsport events run by the Bathurst Light Car Club, including supersprints and hillclimbs.

The precinct is also home to other clubs and competitions, including the Panorama Motorcycle Club, Bathurst Cycling Club, Bathurst Sporting Shooters Association of Australia, Bathurst Clay Target Club, Bathurst Rifle Club, the Panorama Punish fun run and much more.

Where can I buy tickets for events?

Tickets for each event are managed by the event’s promotor. For most major events, such as the Bathurst 1000, tickets can be purchased at the gate. Refer to the Public Events page to be directed to each event’s website for more information on tickets.

Can I bring a structure into the Mount to make viewing easier?

No, platforms or any structures designed to create viewing platforms are not permitted at events held at Mount Panorama. Collapsible chairs are allowed, but couches or lounge chairs are not permitted inside the venue.

Please ensure that anything you bring does not obstruct the view of other spectators. Event organisers reserve the right to determine what is acceptable and may ask you to remove items that don’t comply.

Who can use the Pit Compex?

The Pit Complex is more than just a home for Australia’s premier racing category, the Supercars, it’s also available for hire by the general public for a range of functions and events.
