ABS data from the 2021 census showed that 2,807 people in the Bathurst Local Government Area reported needing help in their day-to-day lives due to a disability, and 5.5 million Australians reported living with a disability. Research indicates that people with disability are more likely to experience violence, abuse, neglect, or exploitation than people without disability.
The Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability released it’s Final Report 29 September 2025. The Final Report consist of 12 volumes and has made 222 recommendations aimed at creating a society where people living with a disability can live safely, independently, and with dignity.
