Dementia Action Week is an initiative of Dementia Australia and aims to raise awareness of the almost half a million Australians living with dementia and the 1.6 million Australians involved in their care. Dementia Action Week is held annually. The theme for 2026 is “It's time to talk about dementia” and this applies to everyone impacted by dementia.

Come along. Have a coffee. Start a conversation. 

Council in Partnership with the Dementia Alliance is hosting a community event to promote Bathurst's D Caf Dementia Cafe and start a conversation about Dementia. 

Our Pop-up D Cafe provides an opportunity to: 

• Learn more from Bathurst's D Caf Dementia Cafe held at The Neighbourhood Centre
• Hear from representatives of the Bathurst Dementia Alliance 
• Explore 'Mind Alive Dementia Kits' in the library 
• Meet others in a friendly, supportive setting 
• Enjoy live music and free coffee.

Time: 10:00am - 12:00noon 
Guest speakers commence from 10:30am 
Location: Bathurst Library Forecourt

Dementia can happen to anybody, but it is most prevalent in people aged 65 or older. It encompasses a range of symptoms including Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, Lewy body dementias and more. Dementia affects everyone differently, but in general it can impact an individual’s mood, memory, thinking and behaviour.

Dementia does not only affect the person living with dementia, but it also takes a significant toll on their family, friends, neighbours, immediate carers, and wider social networks.

Dementia describes a collection of disorders affecting the brain. It can affect thinking, memory and behaviour enough to interfere with someone leading a normal life.

Dementia can happen to anybody, but the risk increases with age.

The Bathurst Dementia Alliance is a local group of community members, people living with dementia, their carers and key stakeholders who advocate for an enhanced quality of life for people with dementia and their carers.  Working collaboratively, the Alliance achieves this through increasing dementia awareness, sharing resources and advocating for positive social change and inclusion in the Bathurst region.
