World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is taking place next week on 15 June. This event aims to promote a better understanding of issues and attitudes that lead to elder abuse. In recognition of this, Council has partnered with Relationships Australia and Chifley Police to develop a Wellbeing Booklet and hold an information stall in town.

Come visit Council representatives outside Blooms the Chemist at the Bathurst Armada Shopping Centre from 10am until 2pm next Thursday 18 June. If you can’t get there on the day, booklets will also be available to collect at Bathurst Library and Bathurst Civic Centre, and via Council’s website: https://www.bathurst.nsw.gov.au/.../elder-abuse-brochure...

Have Your Say - Planning Proposal Seeking to Amend the Bathurst Regional Development Control Plan 2014 – Laffing Waters Master Plan Precinct Neighbourhood Activity Centre

Council has prepared an amendment to the Bathurst Regional Development Control Plan 2014 (DCP 2014). The amendment proposes to update the floorspace provisions for retail premises within the E1 Local Centre zone at the Laffing Waters Neighbourhood Activity Centre to align with the recommendations of the Bathurst Employment Lands Strategy (ELS) and aims to ensure Council adopts a targeted approach to retail expansion, rather than broad retail decentralisation.

Council invites written submissions in relation to the DCP 2014 Amendment. Submissions close 4pm on Monday 22 June 2026 and must include your name and address. Any submission made may be included without alteration (including names and addresses) in reports that are publicly available in Council’s business papers.

Find detailed information and lodge written submissions via Council’s Yoursay page: https://yoursay.bathurst.nsw.gov.au/DCPAmendments

Alternatively, you can email your submission to council@bathurst.nsw.gov.au or post your submission to Bathurst Regional Council, Private Mail Bag 17, Bathurst NSW 2795.

If you have any queries please contact Council’s Manager Strategic Planning, Janet Bingham, or Development Control Planner, Felicity McKellar, on 6333 6211.

No Stopping Zone Russell Street

New “No Stopping” zones have recently been activated along both sides of Russell Street, Gormans Hill, between Lyal Street and Torpys Bridge, for Saturdays during the soccer season until the end of September.

These changes were introduced following several reported near‑miss incidents involving pedestrians and vehicles. Be aware that these zones are operational and enforceable. Council has received complaints about noncompliance and is about to commence issuing fines in the area.

This step is intended to improve safety for players, families and the broader community.

Transport for NSW will be running temporary additional train services and free coach services to support communities like ours impacted by the disruption of the Great Western Highway closure at Victoria Pass.

Traffic on the Great Western Highway is being diverted at Lithgow to travel along Main Street, Chifley Road and the Darling Causeway before rejoining the highway at Mount Victoria. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time. School buses will be diverting away from the area.
