Council’s current Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) is in its final year and consultation is commencing for the creation of the next DIAP 2027-2031. Council wants to hear from you to ensure the plan reflects diverse community needs.
The DIAP aims to set out practical steps for the development of an accessible, inclusive and welcoming community for everyone across the Bathurst Region and Mayor Taylor noted that community feedback is vital to ensure the new plan responds to genuine community needs.
“The NSW Disability Inclusion Act 2014 mandates that Councils must have a current DIAP as it plays a critical role in promoting inclusion and accessibility across the region. Building on the progress of our previous Disability Inclusion Action Plans, we are beginning work on the new DIAP and invite community input to ensure it is appropriately reflective of our growing, varied community.
“Taking place from July through to September, Council will be distributing surveys and conducting focus groups and forums to hear directly from the Bathurst community. To develop and implement these consultation strategies, Council has engaged the services and guidance of the Physical Disability Council of NSW (PDCN) who specialise across all disabilities, not just physical disability,” said Mayor Taylor.
Community members are invited to provide input to the DIAP 2027-2031 through the following consultation opportunities:
A survey will be available from Wednesday 8 July 2026 until Wednesday 5 August 2026.
Hard copies of the survey, including Easy Read options, will be available at the Bathurst Library and Bathurst Civic Centre and will be distributed to identified community groups

A Service Provider Forum will be held on Tuesday 25 August 2026 at the National Motor Racing Museum.
The purpose of this forum is for local service providers to network and build relationships across the industry
Service Providers will be invited directly via email and are also invited to contact Council’s Community Services Team by calling 02 6333 6523
Focus groups will be held at the Bathurst Rail Museum on Tuesday 1 September and the Central Tablelands Collections Facility on Wednesday 2 September 2026.
These sessions will be facilitated by PDCN with Council Staff in attendance
Communities are encouraged to register their attendance with Council’s Community Services team by calling 02 6333 6523
People who are unable to attend will have the opportunity to call Council Staff to have their say
Participants of the focus groups and survey will go in the draw to win one of five $50 Buy Local Gift Cards. Service Providers and Council staff are not eligible for this prize.
