Public Consultation to Commence on Bathurst Flood Study Update

Published on 21 July 2026

Flood Study

The consultation period for the Bathurst Flood Study update has commenced this week, with Council inviting community feedback via surveys and one-on-one information sessions.

Mayor Robert Taylor noted the updated flood study considered the impact of climate change upon rainfall intensity, concluding there will be a likely increase in flood intensity as well as the number of affected properties across Bathurst.

"Council appointed the engineering and environmental consultancy Stantec Australia in 2024 as the consultants for the Bathurst Flood Study Update. Since this time, Stantec has undertaken extensive data collection, reviews and computer-based modelling which have culminated in the draft Flood Study Update Report. This study has found that future flood intensities are forecast to increase, with the impact on Bathurst residences also increasing.

"Public exhibition of the draft Flood Study Update commenced this week and will invite commentary through to Friday 28 August. This gives community members the opportunity to view the report and modelling. There are considerable updates outlined in this report, and Council is requesting valuable feedback from the community and landholders.

"We recognise there is a large amount of information for residents to digest, with some content perhaps raising concern. So, in addition to inviting feedback online through YourSay, next month there will be one-on-one information sessions available, run by Council’s Engineering and Planning teams, and a representative from Stantec. This will provide residents with the opportunity to discuss individual questions. These one-on-one sessions will commence in the third week of the public exhibition period, giving attendees time to familiarise themselves with the contents of the draft study prior to meeting with Council," said Mayor Taylor.
