Enjoy a Coffee with a Councillor this Local Government Week

Local Government Week, held this year from 3-9 August, is an opportunity to showcase the positive work councils do in our communities, with Bathurst Region residents invited to meet and share a coffee with our Councillors next Tuesday.  

Mayor Robert Taylor noted community engagement and communication campaigns have been planned for the week, with this state-wide event highlighting the important role councils play as the hub of the community. 

"The annual Local Government Week aims to move the conversation beyond roads, rates and rubbish and shift the focus to the importance of councils to residents, local businesses and the community as a whole.  

"In Bathurst, Council is responsible for more than just filling potholes and collecting bins; we look after the city's parks and playgrounds, our beloved library, gallery and museums, festivals and events, childcare centres, community infrastructure and so much more. Local Government Week provides the opportunity to showcase these initiatives and the hard work of the people behind the scenes who allow it all to happen for the benefit of the entire community. 

"To mark Local Government Week, the popular Coffee with a Councillor event will be returning next Tuesday 4 August. From 10:30-11:30am at the Rail Museum cafe, community members have the chance to meet and engage with our Bathurst Councillors, allowing residents to pose queries and hear what Council is presently working on," commented Mayor Taylor.
