The 2BS Radio Towers on Freemantle Road, Eglinton have successfully been demolished as part of the Duramana Road Masterplan.
Council’s Engineering Team arranged for the two towers to be safely demolished and removed during the week of Monday 16 June.
Bathurst Regional Council General Manager, David Sherley, commented on the iconic towers’ demolition as signifying the expansion of the Bathurst Region’s population.
“The 2BS towers have long been a local landmark in town.
“No longer serving a purpose for the team at 2BS, the removal of these towers makes way for the future Duramana Road Masterplan, a project accommodating the forecast growth of our city,” he said.
Built to support 2BS radio’s early broadcasts, the towers were a focal point for decades yet had long been inactive thanks to technology advancements. The now vacant land on which the towers were located is covered by the Duramana Road Masterplan, a design for the expansion of Eglinton including residential development, open space and a proposed neighbourhood centre.
