Council is hosting a public workshop to obtain community feedback on the draft implementation plan for the Bathurst Region Active Transport Strategy.
Mayor Cr Robert Taylor noted the Bathurst Region Active Transport Strategy (BRATS) seeks to address the city’s active transport network, improving the usability of the existing footpaths and cycleways, and identifying new opportunities to enhance connectivity.
“BRATS is being developed by Bitzios Consulting, in collaboration with Council, and will address quality upgrades and usability improvements to all forms of human-powered travel in the Bathurst Region. This encompasses walking, cycling, or using a wheelchair or scooter, along with supporting micro-mobility transport users, including electric scooters, wheelchairs, and skateboards.
“Various levels of public consultation are taking place as part of the development of BRATS. Stage 1 took place in August and involved community engagement to identify issues within the existing active transport network, such as missing links, unsafe crossing points, accessibility issues, and so on.
“Council has now commenced Stage 2 of community engagement which will inform preparation of the Strategy. This stage will involve a public workshop prompting discussion on a medium and long-term implementation plan for a future network in accordance with State and National best practices. This is a crucial step to ensure Council gathers valuable community feedback, helping shape an active transport network that meets the usability and connectivity needs of our region,” said Mayor Taylor.
Members of the community are invited to this public workshop, facilitated by Bitzios Consulting and Council. Details are as follows:
When: Thursday 4 December Time: 12pm - 2pm
