Bathurst’s beloved Begonia House in Machattie Park will reopen for its 2026 season from Tuesday 10 February.
Mayor Cr Robert Taylor remarked Begonia House is a popular attraction for locals and tourists alike.
“Machattie Park’s Begonia House is a beautiful Bathurst institution that will be open from next Tuesday through to the end of April, depending on ideal growing conditions. It is home to a fabulous array of tuberous Begonias that are dutifully tended to by Council’s horticultural team.
“Begonias have a seven-month growing period and they are re-potted twice during this time, with the final repotting being into the display pots ready for all the visitors to view. Preparation for the display is rather labour intensive, but it’s a brilliantly rewarding project that our staff take on annually to create such a stunning feature for our community. There are more than 90 hybrid species on display, all showcasing their individual charm.
“In fact, our display in Bathurst is one of only a handful of large public begonia displays in Australia, so make sure you head down from 10 February to have a look and take in their beauty,” said Mayor Taylor.
Begonia House is open Monday to Friday between 9am and 3pm and on weekends from 11am to 3pm. The display will be closed Good Friday and is expected to run through until the end of April.
