Bathurst has been announced as a finalist in the 2024 NSW Top Tourism Town Awards.
The Awards program is run annually by Business NSW, with the Top Tourism Town Awards showcasing the value of tourism to the towns and communities across NSW and celebrating the diversity and outstanding regional destinations of the State.
Mayor of Bathurst Cr Jess Jennings welcomed the announcement and said that this was further recognition of the strength and diversity of the local tourism industry and of the commitment of Council’s tourism and events staff.
“Tourism has been a strong focus for Bathurst Regional Council with the sector contributing approximately $383 million to the local economy in 2022.”
“The Tourism Awards program genuinely recognises the best of the best, with the ‘Top Tourism Town’ being a relatively new component of the annual awards that looks at an overall destination rather than individual businesses. It is tremendously satisfying to see Bathurst recognised as one of the nine State finalists.”
Part of the scoring of finalists is a public voting process. Voting is now open and runs through until 5pm Monday 13 May. Public voting is open to all persons aged 18 years and older at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/QQ9H5NG
“The public voting is an important part of the award process and counts for 25% of a destination’s final score. I strongly encourage all locals to show their pride in their town, jump online and get behind Bathurst and cast a vote,” Cr Jennings said.
Winners of the 2024 NSW Top Tourism Town Awards will be announced at the 2024 Local Government NSW Destination and Visitor Economy Conference being held 28 - 30 May 2024 in Wagga Wagga.
The announcement continues a strong run of recent achievements for Bathurst following the Bathurst Visitor Information Centre taking home the gold award at the 2023 NSW Tourism Awards, the Bathurst Heritage Trades Trail winning Silver and the Bathurst Winter Festival bronze. BVIC went on to achieve a ‘Highly Commended’ at the Australian Tourism Awards, and Bathurst was a Top 10 winner in the Wotif Top Aussie Towns for 2024.
