Council has secured $450,000 from the NSW Government’s Permit/ Plug/ Play Program to deliver the Bathurst Event Ready Street Project.

This project will make it easier for community groups, businesses and event organisers to deliver street-based events in and around Kings Parade by simplifying some of the planning and approval processes involved in closing Russell and Church Streets.

Events bring visitors to our city, support local businesses and give people another reason to spend time in the CBD, with Mayor Robert Taylor remarking that Bathurst has a proud history of holding community events that bring people together.

"This funding approval is terrific news for Council! The Bathurst Event Ready Street Project will make it easier for organisers to hold street-based events in the CBD and help us continue to grow Bathurst as a regional events destination.

"This grant will help progress Council's plans for permanent power infrastructure to support street-based events in and around Kings Parade, a practical investment that will make a real difference. It will reduce the need for temporary generators and help lower the cost of putting on events in the CBD.

"The funding is proposed to support the development of pre-approved traffic management and event management plans, improvements to Council’s internal approval processes and provide our staff with additional training in event safety and risk management," said Mayor Taylor.

This project is part of Council’s ongoing work in supporting local businesses, encouraging people to visit and spend time in the CBD, and making better use of the public spaces throughout the Bathurst Region.

Minister for Transport, Minister for the Arts and the Night-Time Economy John Graham said:

“We’re excited to support Bathurst Regional Council to make regular community events more financially sustainable by reducing costs.

“Our local streets are great places to bring the community together and to drive revenue for local businesses, but opening our streets has often been too costly and too complicated.

“This support is about cutting red tape and costs so that towns like Bathurst host street events more often.”

The Bathurst Event Ready Street project is proudly funded by the NSW Government through Transport for NSW’s Permit Plug Play Program.
