Bathurst Region residents are set to benefit from a new mobile library van after Council received a $300,000 grant from the New South Wales Government.
Mayor Robert Taylor noted Council is one of 23 recipients of the 2025-26 Public Library Infrastructure Grants, providing valuable funding for projects that will assist local governments to improve public library infrastructure.
“This is such excellent news. Thanks to this funding, Council will be able to provide a brand-new mobile library van to continue and improve outreach services to our rural villages, schools and home library users. It will also function as an engaging pop-up service at local events to support community connection and access to library services for the next decade.
“This new van will bolster existing outreach services and further Council’s aim of reducing access barriers, promoting literacy and digital equity, and fostering social inclusion. By bringing the library directly to the people, whether that’s through supporting older adults, people with disabilities, or students at our village schools, this service strengthens our growing community while helping assess future library needs for our region,” said Mayor Taylor.
The Bathurst Mobile Library Van initiative reflects Council’s commitment to innovation, equity and community wellbeing and is designed for long-term sustainability, with operational integration into Bathurst Library’s core services and ongoing financial support from Council and State Government funding.
