Following on from the visit to Cirencester by Mayor Cr Jess Jennings as part of the ongoing Bathurst Cirencester Friendship agreement, the 9th Earl Bathurst and Cirencester Town Council incoming Mayor Cr Sarah Orr will join the ordinary Council meeting this week to address Council.
Cr Jennings said the friendship agreement was formalised with a Memorandum of Understanding signed by Bathurst and Cirencester in 2020. A planned visit to Cirencester in May 2020 was postponed due to COVID and Council formally signed the MOU via a video call in December 2020
“The friendship agreement has grown out of ongoing relationship since 2015 when the Earl and Countess Bathurst visited for the Bathurst 200 bicenentary celebrations. At that time discussions were held to develop a sister city relationship between the two communities.”
“Wednesday night’s meeting will provide an opportunity for the Council and the community to hear from Lord Bathurst and Cr Orr and the benefits they see flowing from the Cirencester- Bathurst friendship agreement,” Cr Jennings said.
Cr Jennings has self-funded his trip to England and Cirencester this month to hold further discussions and explore potential links and benefits for both communities from the friendship.
Bathurst – Cirencester Friendship Agreement
The Friendship Agreement explores opportunities for the collaborative development of research, the organisation of joint academic, cultural and artistic activities, the exchange of research teaching personnel and students, the exchange of publications and other material of common interest, the exchange of business and commercial interest and such other collaborative activities.
