Waste 2 Art is a FREE waste inspired art competition and exhibition that celebrates the reuse and recycling of waste. There's a category for every member of the community and each year there is a waste theme to guide your creations. The focus of Waste 2 Art is to challenge the way we look at waste.

2024 Waste Theme: Year of Packaging

Packaging is often extremely wasteful and can impact our environment. Australians throw away around 1.9 million tonnes of packaging each year! Plastic is often used in packaging as it is lightweight, durable, decay resistant, mouldable and inexpensive, however this comes at a price. Plastic is not biodegradable and when disposed of in landfill, will remain there for hundreds or even thousands of years to come. By highlighting packaging through the 2024 competition, we hope that the community will learn about the impacts of various types of unsustainable packaging, and how to avoid it where possible, and be inspired to make more sustainable choices around packaging in their day to day lives.

We know that not all artworks will be made from 100% waste materials, however each artwork must make use of waste packaging to be eligible for entry.
