Australia Day Ambassadors 2020 - Lana and Roger Borg

The Australia Day Ambassadors for 2020 are Lana and Roger Borg. Lana and Roger have dedicated themselves to cooking hot home-made meals for those in need. When the bushfires ravaged Winmalee in October 2013, Lana and her husband Roger wanted to help in some way. With a lifelong love of cooking, Lana decided to take time off work so that she could feed the firefighters. With the help from her husband Roger and friends, Lana cooked hot home-made meals plus organised BBQ breakfasts and dinners for the volunteers at Storage King, Penrith.

Then in November 2013, Lana was asked to cook a banquet Christmas Eve dinner for the Penrith's homeless. It was then that Lana and Reger realised that there was a great need in our community for a free hot meal service. Mama Lana's Community Foundation was born, serving hot home-cooked meals as well as providing support four nights a week.

In January 2016, with the help of over 80 volunteers, they increased the meal service to six nights a week as well as starting a school student lunch sponsorship program. They now also provide lunch packs to students at a local high school 5 days a week. Over the past 12 months, they have also been able to support Domestic Violence cases with emergency food hampers through the Penrith Women's Health Centre.
