Proclamation Day

Proclamation Day celebrates the shared history of Bathurst. The event is held in the exact location Governor Lachlan Macquarie placed the Union Jack, Macquarie River Flag Staff, marking Bathurst as Australia’s first inland European in 1815. The event celebrates the shared history of Bathurst, with the Wiradjuri people and wider Bathurst community.

Included in the celebrations of Proclamation Day is a ceremony recognising past and present members of Bathurst who have contributed to shaping the town. Each year, new Living Legends are celebrated at the official ceremony at the Flagstaff, before the ceremony moves to the Pillars of Bathurst, where pivotal past members of Bathurst are acknowledged.

On Proclamation Day, the community is invited to explore the rich history of Bathurst, with a self-guided tour of The Delightful Spots Trail.

More information will be provided closer to the event date.
