Construction of Chifley Home Interpretation Centre begins
Work on the Chifley Home Interpretation Centre, an exciting project to enhance and add to the capability of the Chifley Home Museum, has begun with a tender recently awarded to Hines Constructions by Bathurst Regional Council.
The new Interpretation Centre will be located immediately next door to the Chifley Home in Busby Street, with $175,000 in funding allocated to the project from the Federal Government's Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program. The Chifley Interpretation Centre has also received $82,000 from the Arts NSW which has been matched by Bathurst Regional Council.
The existing cottage will be extensively modified and will feature an authentic 1940s sitting room, large central space to accommodate temporary exhibitions, workshops and school groups, a research room with original and facsimile material, a shop selling mementos and souvenirs, and an authentic 1940s laundry - which will include all the equipment from the time.
