The Census Data in 2006 reflects that there are 1235 indigenous people residing in the Bathurst Region, which represents 3.4% of the total population. In New South Wales approximately 2.1% of the population is indigenous. These figures should be considered with caution as many indigenous people do not complete the Census.
Council supports the Bathurst Local Aboriginal Consultative Committee which meets monthly and provides opportunity for indigenous people to inform Council on cultural and social issues affecting their communities.

Bathurst Local Aboriginal Consultative Committee
The aim of the Bathurst Local Aboriginal Consultative Committee (BLACC) is to provide advice on Aboriginal cultural and social issues to the Bathurst Regional Council to assist the Council to develop and implement policies and programs that will address the issues raised.
