The theme for Local Government Week in 2011 is "Empowering Communities", and Bathurst Regional Council has a number of activities planned to celebrate the occasion. Local Government week will commence on the 1st of August with a Lauch at Bathurst's Chifley Home Education Centre. Local Government Week gives Councillors and Council staff the opportunity to get out into the community and talk about what Council does and can do for the region.
During Local Government Week school students are encouraged to come along to Council open day where they can view a number of Council Facilities inlucding the Waste Water works, behind the scenes at the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre, Waste Management Centre, and the Civic Centre. It is a great opportunity to get children interested in Local Government, and to learn about the levels of Government and the role they play in our community.
During Local Government week Council will hold a shopping centre display, where there will be information available regarding waste management, renewable energy and much more. Council staff will also be on hand to have a friendly chat and answer any questions people may have.
