Trees provide soil stability, shade and shelter necessary in this climate. They are the basis for the retention and restoration of our dwindling wildlife and environment and create much of the oxygen needed by man.
Council has placed a tree preservation order on all trees situated in the former Bathurst City Council local government area with a height in excess of four (4) metres and a branch spread in excess of three (3) metres. The Order prohibits, without the express prior approval of the Council, the ringbarking, cutting down, topping, lopping, removal or wilful destruction of such trees, notwithstanding whether such trees are on public or private land.
There is also a tree preservation order on trees situated in the Hill View Estate and certain trees within the Mount Haven Estate.
Should residents wish to carry out any work on trees, the property owner must complete and submit Council's TPO Application Form and pay the appropriate fee (currently $37).
Residents are advised that there is a waiting period of at least 10 working days following the receipt of a TPO Application, prior to Council's inspection of the site.
