Good hygiene and food safety practices can prevent food poisoning and other illnesses. The Bathurst Regional Council's Environmental Health Officers carry out routine food safety and hygiene assessments of all business premises preparing food for sale to the general public.
Assessments are carried out to measure compliance of the food business with the requirements of the Food Act 2003, Food Regulation 2004 and the Food Standard Code. Assessments examine the structure of the premises and the practices carried out by the food handlers when storing, preparing and serving food.
Other strategies are in place to ensure the safety of food provided within the Bathurst region. These include investigating complaints about food and food handling practices.
