Council, throughout the year, promotes responsible pet ownership by running the following programs:

  1. Subsidised de-sexing, microchipping and vaccination program for low income pet owners.
So far, in the 4 years the program has been running, Council has assisted in vaccinating, de-sexing and microchipping over 400 animals.
  2. Visiting local schools and community services clubs.
Council’s Senior Ranger visits local primary schools with a view to encourage responsible attitudes towards all animals.  This is achieved through an informal educational program held over an hour.  Council’s Ranger also speaks at community service club meetings.

The above programs assist Council in controlling the number of abandoned, unwanted, and stray pets which end up being left at the small animal pound or in public places.
