In December 1998 the Bathurst Central Business District Beautification Scheme which was prepared by a Team of Council’s Planners and Engineers, with the assistance of a Heritage Advisor, was adopted by Bathurst Regional Council. |

The principal aim of the scheme is to compliment and add to the city’s heritage, history and beauty and to contribute to the efficient use of space and movement, to improve the streetscape qualities of the CBD for users and to enhance business opportunities for the benefit of the whole community.

Historical Review of the CBD |

A review of photographic records was undertaken by Council to identify the historic character of the areas, with a view to maintaining the heritage style of the City in the Beautification Program.

- Floodlight landmark buildings eg. Churches, TAFE Complex and the Court House.
- Replace street name signage and provide new signage to off-street car parking areas.

Extensive consultation with the community was undertaken as part of the preparation of the Beautification Scheme, including 18 presentations (including 3 public discussion forums) and a mail out to all property owners and tenants within the affected area, and to all ratepayers via the Council's Newsletter.
