Council engaged Edward Higginbotham & Associates to prepare the Bathurst Regional Archaeological Management Plan.

The draft plan has been placed on public exhibition for a period of one month from 22 October 2011 to 22 November 2011.

During this time comments on the draft Plan from interested persons are invited.

The aim of the draft Plan is to promote the heritage and archaeology of the region. It identifies opportunities for conservation, research, archaeological investigation, interpretation and display as well as education and cultural tourism.

The draft Plan has been prepared for the whole local government area and concentrates on the following historical themes:

-   Penal settlement

-   Road construction using convict labour
-   Pastoral settlement
-   Cities, towns and villages
-   Mining and mineral extraction

See link below for a copy of the draft plan.  The Plan includes 2 volumes, as well as 3 maps. Volume 1 outlines the archaeological themes. Volume 2 details the site survey, significance, conservation and management. Map 1 details the extent of pastoral settlement up to the 1840s. Map 2 outlines the recommended archaeological conservation areas for urban and village locations. Map 3 outlines the recommended mining archaeological conservation areas.
