The John Matthews Complex is a multi-use sporting and recreational venue providing quality facilities for local and regional sports events, as well as informal recreation.
The complex includes a small children's playground, tennis and netball facilities, a community run miniature railway, and is adjacent to the Bathurst Ten Pin Bowling Centre and the PCYC.
The complex is located on Durham Street, opposite the site of the proposed Adventure Playground.
The Tennis Centre
The Tennis Centre has 17 all weather courts, with 11 lit for night-time competition. 2 international standard "centre courts" are equipped with grandstand style seating for spectators. The adjacent covered "hit-up" area provides the opportunity for warm-up and practice activities.
Casual court hire is available for recreational usage, while the Bathurst Carillon Tennis Club (which is affiliated with NSW Tennis) holds competition events in several categories.
The centre hosts a number of major tournaments throughout the year, including the Bathurst Open Juniors Tour, a national Group Tournament that attracts up to 200 competitors each year.
Netball Courts
Bathurst's home of netball, the complex has 14 all weather synthetic netball courts. The Bathurst Netball Association co-ordinates a thriving weekend competition during the winter season, incorporating teams from Under 7's to adults.
In addition, school competitions utilise the facility for inter-school events and regional carnivals. Player facilities include a club house with a canteen and a toilet block with change room facilities. 6 courts have lighting for training. There is a grandstand adjacent to the main court and other seating around the outer edges of the court is provided.
