This year a delegation consisting of members from the local Bathurst Community and Council representatives travelled to Ohkuma in Japan to celebrate the 20th Anniversary between the two Sister-Cities.
The delegation consisted of Mayor of Bathurst, Cr Paul Toole, Cr Monica Morse and members of the public; Craig Carter, Carole and Kevin McDiarmid, Michael Morse and Felicity Baines. The group travelled to Japan from Thursday 4 November – Saturday 13 November 2010.
Along with the many opportunities for site seeing and recreation, the delegation met with the Mayor of Ohkuma and Sister-City Officials to recognise the significant relationship that the two regions have formed.
During the trip participants were able to eat the local cuisine, meet with local families, visit ancient and historic sites and participate in traditional Japanese customers and traditions.
Delegates were also provided to participate in a home-stay with local residents and gain an authentic insight into the local lifestyle.
The delegation also received an introduction into the local lifestyle, education and had the unique opportunity to explore the culture of Ohkuma at the annual Autumn Harvest Festival.
"It is always a great thrill to visit our friends in Ohkuma and continue the wonderful Sister City Relationship that our two cities have enjoyed for more than 20 years now", Mayor Toole said.
"Residents from Bathurst have been making this journey since 1991 and this is a great opportunity to celebrate this unique relationship."
In November 2009 a delegation from Ohkuma came to Bathurst and spent three days visiting the local attractions and facilities that Bathurst has to offer. The group were also able to continue building on the many relationships that have grown throughout the last 20 years. |
