The Ohkuma Garden, situated on the corner of Hereford and Stanley Streets, was first discussed as a concept in 1996.

During a visit to Bathurst in March 1997, a landscape gardener from Ohkuma and representatives from Council discussed the plans for the gardens. Following further discussions between the two cities, Ohkuma agreed to finance half the cost of the project in September 1997.

The gardens were completed in March 1998 in just ten days, surely a spectacular effort from all concerned.
