Kelso High School was established in 1975 and teaching commenced in demountable classrooms at Gorman's Hill, Bathurst in 1976. The planning, design and construction of the new school at Boyd Street Kelso took three years to complete and teaching commenced at this site in 1978. The design for the new school was unique and the teaching and learning facilities included a multi level library, gymnasium, 160 seat theatrette, shaded courtyards and flexible learning, units to facilitate new flexible teaching and learning approaches. This was the first flexible plan high school to be built in NSW.
