Department of Aging, Disability and Home Care PDF Print E-mail

The Department of Aging, Disability and Home Care provide opportunities for older people, people with disabilities and their carers, to lead independent lives and to participate fully in community life.

The Home Care Service is one of a number of Home and Community Care providers subsidised by the Australian and NSW Governments to help people with a disability, older people and carers to live independently in their own homes. Generally, services include;

  • Domestic assistance
  • Personal Care
  • Respite Care

There are eight Aboriginal Home Care Service branches throughout NSW that provide a variety of services specifically for Indigenous clients.

Eligibility
Frail older people and younger people with disability in NSW and their carers who are having difficulty managing in their own homes are eligible for help from the Home Care Service. Being eligible does not mean you will automatically get a service as there is a high level of demand.

Assessing your needs
Asking for help is the first step. Once you have made contact, a Home Care Service representative will contact you to talk about your needs and explore ways they might be able to help. If the Home Care Service can help you, an agreement will be drawn up and your needs will be regularly assessed.

What do services cost?
Clients pay a contribution towards the services they receive from the Home Care Service. Your Home Care Service Representative will advise you about what you will contribute. The remaining costs are shared between the NSW and Australian Governments’ Home and Community Care Program.

If you think that the Home Care Service can help you or someone you know please contact the Department of Aging, Disability and Home Care on 02 6331 7100 or follow the link below to visit their website.
